Miroslav Holub

Happy International Translation Day!

Another, more recent, favourite in translation is Miroslav Holub. A scientist and poet I became a fan when I started to write poetry in a more analytic manner. I love how Holub uses knowledge and detail to inform and enhance his writing.

Here Joseph Fiennes reads his poem, A Door. And you can read a biography from the Poetry Foundation to learn more about his life.

One of my favourites is the poem, The last night bus.

The last bus echoes away
in the depth
of night’s
spinal canal.

Such a wonderful writer, different and insightful as well as gripping.

    1. I love it when writers use their knowledge to make you feel smarter rather than like you’re missing out on something.
