Poems that start or end with Apparently by Matthew Caley is a clever look at how we conceal what we mean with what we say. The obfuscation of meaning through language. The way that Caley manages conflicting styles and themes is effective in some places and jarring in others. I especially liked Way Out West and Onyx Bed Posts. Although mostly accessible, some of the pieces in the collection are hard to connect to and feel rather hollow. I found dipping into it more enjoyable than when I read all the way through.
